What Is TMJ Therapy?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the spot where your jaw connects to your skull to allow you to open and close your jaw smoothly. Sometimes the TMJ is damaged or injured, causing a debilitating condition called temporomandibular joint disorder or dysfunction (TMD). If you are having pain or hearing noises when you open your jaw, then schedule an appointment with Dr. Sean Melton to see if you have TMD. At his practice, Melton Dental in Helena, MT, Dr. Melton utilizes advanced tools to diagnose and care for your TMD to relieve pain. Your TMJ treatment will be based on the cause of your TMD and your particular condition, but a few options are oral appliances (night guards or mouth guards), bite adjustment, dental restorations, and much more.
What Can I Expect from TMJ Therapy?
To help diagnose a temporomandibular disorder, Dr. Melton will carefully listen and understand your concerns before performing a physical exam. Throughout the exam, he will evaluate how your jaw moves and search for indications of misalignment, teeth grinding, and jaw clenching. He will also feel the jaw and surrounding area for any swelling and tenderness. Dr. Melton might order digital x-rays of your lower face or an analysis of your bite to look for underlying causes that will determine your therapy method. Based on the examination, he will go over your treatment choices that may incorporate a dental appliance, orthodontics, or dental restorations (crowns or bridges).

Melton Dental Reviews
Sean is very good, and he surrounds himself with classy assistants. He will work with his clients on challenging needs and is totally fair.
My first visit and what a great experience; despite the complexity of enhancing my smile and being in the chair 2 1/2 hours! Dr Melton snd his staff are top shelf. Professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. I’ll post before and after photos when my dental work is complete.
This was the best customer service I have ever had! My son was getting senior pictures this weekend and was supposed to get teeth whitened Friday. A staff member got sick so need to reschedule, but Dr. Melton called a staff member (Lenny (who was amazing)) see if there was anyway someone could come in on Saturday. They came in on their day off to whiten my sons' teeth! She was so kind, excellent customer service, made us feel welcome! We will be back, and I would highly recommend them to anyone! Thank you, Melton Dental!
